This long and thin, tapering garden called for a significant redesign, shrubs were cleared, old poorly conceived paths removed and the back garden garage base re-landscaped. Our clients wished for a wildlife friendly and a more immersive and aesthetically pleasing garden, to make more of their outdoor space.
A flowing path with variable width and horizontal in bedded flagstones was conceived, along with a large border on the right, to give a wider sense of space, and immersive, wild feel of cottage garden planting. The circular patio was retained, without the surrounding box shrubs. A focal point in the same style of metal edging and gravel was created for a bird bath in the border adjacent to an olive tree, planted from a large pot.
The garden was partitioned in the middle to address the long thin shape and openness, with borders, tall juniper trees and a metal pergola (to be installed at a later date).
We built a patio on a old garage base, for a summer house, installed trellis and juniper screening. A custom timber compost bay was added to encourage sustainable gardening.
